Spay NOLA
Southern Animal Foundation's Spay/Neuter Program
Southern Animal Foundation is offering one of New Orlean's low-cost spay/neuter programs. It is our hope to continue the effort to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats, puppies and kittens that end up in our Southeast Louisiana shelters each year. SAF encourages EVERYONE to have their pets spayed or neutered. An aggressive spay/neuter program is the only way to stop the pet overpopulation, as well as the euthanasia of innocent dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.
"How do I qualify?" - Anyone can make an appointment. There are no financial or geographic restrictions for this program.
"How much does it cost?" - $20 for cats (owned or feral) and $50 for dogs up to 60 lbs. Dogs over 60 lbs are $70. A Feline vaccine package (Rabies/FVRCP) can be purchased for an additional $10, and a K9 vaccine package can be purchased for $40 (rabies, DA2PP, Bordatella) This package is for surgery patients only. **We do accept the $10 vouchers for feral cats from the Friends of Jefferson Animal Shelter. Please call 504-883-8277 for more info.**
"How do I make an appointment?" - Call SAF's appointment line at 504-975-PETS (7387) from 8 AM to 8 PM, 7 days a week. All surgeries will be booked/taken in BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!!! The line can be very busy, and it may take numerous attempts to get through.
"Where do I bring my pet?" - Drop off is between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM the day of the appointment at the SAF Annex 1829 Magazine St. Do not give food or water after midnight the night before surgery. Pick up will be the same day between 5 PM and 6 PM.
***Please note: Any animals not picked up by the end of the day will be charged $20 per night, per pet boarding fee.***
Dogs/puppies must be leashes or in a kennel. Cats/kittens must each be in their own carrier or trap. Traps MUST be covered with a large sheet or towel.
Surgery days are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays only. (For trappers, trap the night before or the morning of surgery.) Due to the high demand for this service, we will not be able to accomodate walk-ins.
Further test/vaccines/microchipping may be done for an additional fee, upon request of the owner. Our veterinarians may decline to perform surgery on any animal, at any time, if it is not in the best interest of that animal. Medical issues that need further attention at the time of surgery may incur additional costs. (i.e. abscesses, wounds, pregnancy, hernias, etc.) In order to give everyone a chance to benefit from this opportunity, we will need to limit appointment slots to a maximum of 5 per individual or rescue organization, per day.
Southern Animal Foundation is a full service veterinary clinic, 501(c)(3) non profit, and adoption/rescue agency established in 1995 and located in New Orleans, LA.
