Spay Jefferson
A joint effort by Southern Animal Foundation and Jefferson Parish
Low-cost Spay/Neuter Program
(Begins December 1st, 2009)
Southern Animal Foundation and Jefferson Parish are now offering Jefferson Parish a low-cost spay/neuter program. It is our hope to continue the effort to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats, puppies and kittens that end up in our Southeast Louisiana shelters each year. SAF encourages EVERYONE to have their pets spayed or neutered. An aggressive spay/neuter program is the only way to stop the pet overpopulation, as well as the euthanasia of innocent dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.
"How do I qualify?" - You must be a resident of Jefferson Parish. (Driver's license or state ID required.)
"How much does it cost?" - $10 for cats and $10 for dogs. Low-cost vaccinations and microchips can be purchased for both cats and dogs at time of surgery. (Rabies/FVRCP for cats $10; Rabies, DA2PP, Bordatella for dogs $40; HomeAgain microchips $15)
"How do I make an appointment?" - Call SAF's appointment line at 504-975-PETS (7387) from 8 AM to 8 PM, 7 days a week. When you are booking your appointment, please specify the Spay Jefferson program. All surgeries will be booked/taken in BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!!! The line can be very busy, and it may take numerous attempts to get through.
"Where do I bring my pet?" - Drop off is between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM the day of the appointment at the SAF Annex 1829 Magazine St. Do not give food or water after midnight the night before surgery. Pick up will be the same day; dog pick up time is 4-6 PM; cat pick up is 5-6 PM.
Dogs/puppies must be leashed or in a kennel. Cats/kittens must be in a carrier. NO MORE THAN ONE CAT PER CARRIER.
***Please note: Any animals not picked up by the end of the day will be charged $20 per night, per pet boarding fee.***
Surgery days are on Mondays, Tuesdays, & Fridays only. Due to the high demand for this service, we will not be able to accomodate walk-ins.
Further test/vaccines/microchipping may be done for an additional fee, upon request of the owner. Our veterinarians may decline to perform surgery on any animal, at any time, if it is not in the best interest of that animal. Medical issues that need further attention at the time of surgery may incur additional costs. (i.e. abscesses, wounds, pregnancy, hernias, etc.) Spay Jefferson is a cooperative effort between Southern Animal Foundation and Jefferson Parish. Spay Jefferson is for the residents of Jefferson Parish only.
Southern Animal Foundation is a full service veterinary clinic, 501(c)(3) non profit, and adoption/rescue agency established in 1995 and located in New Orleans, LA.
