NEW UPDATE ON NELLIE! 1/22/10
Nellie gets to keep her leg! She will be a healthy, 4 legged dog after all! Nellie (and the entire staff at SAF) are very grateful for the anonymous donation to pay for her surgery to save her leg. Also, many, many thanks to the wonderful staff at Southeast Veterinary Specialists, especially Dr. Rose Lemarie. Her skill and expertise gave Nellie a new "leash" on life.
(Please see her original story below.)
THANK YOU!!!
Nellie's original story...
Nellie's leg is a result of neglect, due to not receiving medical treatment after being hit by a car nearly 4 months ago. Her owner was required to bring her to a vet after a complaint by a concerned neighbor. The owner surrendered Nellie to SAF without even a slap on the wrist by the authorities. Nellie's leg will be amputated soon, and she'll be looking for a home where she will be loved and cared for properly. She's a very happy, loving dog that has suffered for months due to the neglectful care she was under. Nellie was also living her life as a yard dog on the end of a chain. Nellie will be spayed and microchipped. Amazingly, she's heartworm negative! After her amputation of her right front leg, Nellie will be considered "special needs" although missing one leg won't slow her down or ruin her spirit. Please contact us at 504-671-8235 if you're interested in adopting Nellie. If you'd like to donate to her surgery and care, please go to our "DONATE" tab on our home page.
Nellie says "woof". (thanks...)
